Motion Capture Suits
Xsens motion capture suits are used for games, films, ergonomics, sports, education, and research. They give you precise and validated data for your project. There are different suits for different applications, which one is the best for you?
What is the purpose of a motion capture suit?
Inertial motion capture uses sensors to record the motion of your body parts. There are two important factors when it comes to the sensors:
-
They need to be in the exact spot
The placement of the sensor is very important to get precise data. Sensors are placed on strategic points to get the best data and so they don’t move too much. -
They need to stay fixed to the spot
Once the sensors are placed, it is important that they do not move or get displaced. When this happens, you can get incorrect data and it is best to recalibrate in such situations.
Xsens motion capture suits are optimally designed to ensure both factors are taken care of. The suits guide you in placing the sensors in the right spots, and they keep the sensors fixed to their position. The Xsens Link (lycra) suit does this perfectly as it is a very tight suit and keeps the sensors perfectly in place. The Xsens Awinda straps are optimized for fixing the sensors by using specific fabric that sticks more effectively.
Xsens motion capture data is very precise and accurate because of the quality of the suits, but the software is even more important to give you the best quality data available in the market.

FAQ
What Xsens mocap suit do I need?
Xsens motion capture is based on inertial technology, we have 17 sensors attached to the body in order to capture your movements. The sensors need to stay in place for the best possible motion capture data quality. Xsens offers two different mocap suits, a full-body lycra suit and a straps based setup.
The Xsens Awinda attaches 17 wireless sensors using straps and a t-shirt and the Xsens Link embeds 17 tethered sensors inside a lycra suit. Both sensor setups have a wireless connection to the access point.
The Xsens Awinda works with adjustable straps that allow for fast, easy, and reliable motion capture, it’s also easy to change between actors or subjects. The Xsens Link is a lycra suit to make sure the sensors are fitted tightly on body ensuring even more accurate data recording.
