MTi 600-series set to appear in wave of new products entering the markets for unmanned aerial vehicles, surveying equipment, autonomous vehicles and more
Enschede, The Netherlands – September 10, 2019 - Xsens today announces the availability in mass production volume of the MTi 600-series, which is disrupting the mid-range inertial motion sensor market thanks to its combination of small size, industrial-grade performance and competitive pricing.
A new development kit, a plug-and-play board and sensor module, is also now available at pricing starting at $449. It provides a comprehensive hardware environment for evaluating the performance of the MTi 600-series sensors, and is supplied with the free-of-charge MT Software Suite, Xsens’ popular design and configuration tool for MTi series sensors. The MTi 600-series Development Kit is available to order online at shop.xsens.com.
Since Xsens released samples of the all-new MTi 600-series in April, developers have been discovering the dramatic impact that it can have in applications that were previously constrained by older sensors’ performance limitations. Following the completion of production verification and quality assurance, Xsens is now ready to supply production volumes of MTi 600 units for assembly into maritime, land and aerial systems/platforms such as ROVs/AUVs/surface vessels, autonomous ground vehicles (trucks/cars/excavators/AGVs), exoskeletons, UAVs/drones/xCopters, surveying and (LIDAR-) mapping devices and VSAT/antenna/gimbal units.
The MTi 600-series of inertial sensors, supplied in a 31.5mm x 28.0mm x 13.0mm IP51-rated case, produce roll and pitch readings accurate to ±0.2°. GNSS-assisted heading (yaw) measurements are accurate to ±1.0°. The sensors include a CAN bus interface, and provide an NMEA interface for easy integration into end products in the marine and aerospace markets.
To achieve this excellent performance, Xsens has applied numerous innovations in its latest sensor fusion algorithms, which optimize the output from new accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer components. This has allowed it to bring the performance-optimized MTi 600-series to market at unit prices starting at below €300 for production volumes of the MTi 610 IMU.
There are four products in the MTi 600-series:
The MTi 600-series modules offer the same core benefits that users of existing Xsens modules will be familiar with:
In addition, for navigation applications users can choose any GNSS receiver chip, module or system to work alongside the MTi-670, a GNSS/INS device which supplements the pitch, roll and yaw outputs available from other MTi 600-series products with global positioning information.
Meindert Zeeuw, Business Manager Inertial Sensor Modules at Xsens, said: ‘Since the MTi 600-series’ launch, development engineers have been blown away by the performance that they are getting from sample units, especially given the competitive pricing that Xsens is able to offer because of the module’s innovative design. Now these engineers can take their designs into production, confident that the MTi 600 production units will meet the very high standards of quality and reliability that Xsens has always maintained.’
